At Forgotten Fruits, we are committed to redefining agriculture through permaculture principles, fostering a harmonious coexistence with nature. Our mission is to cultivate a resilient and regenerative food system that honors forgotten fruits, promotes biodiversity, and nurtures the land. Through sustainable practices, education, and community engagement, we strive to inspire a profound connection between people and the Earth, ensuring a bountiful, diverse, and flourishing future for generations to come.
Our team at Forgotten Fruits is made up, mostly of our family, with diverse backgrounds, who are passionate about what we do. We work hard every day to ensure that the land, plants, and animals are cared for in an ethical and sustainable way. We're proud to be a part of the local farming community and we're always happy to share our knowledge and experience with others.
Our farm was founded in 1960 by our grandparents. It was initially farmed as a homestead, consistent with restorative practices. After they were no longer able to farm it themselves, they rented the land to conventional farmers for some time. We are now converting it back into a natural farm that uses restorative practices. The establishment of a large elderberry patch was our first goal. We then began to establish the rest of the farm, including elderberries, chestnuts, paw paws, persimmon, plums, honey berries, and more!
We have seasonal offerings, such as fresh elderflowers in June, elderberries in late August and early September, and a wide range of perennials to start our own food forest.
We raise heritage Mangalitsa pigs on pasture using regenerative practices, producing rich, flavorful pork with exceptional marbling and nutritional value. Our pigs live a happy luxurious life in our food forest.
Come pick your own fruits at Forgotten Fruits Farm. We currently offer u-pick elderflowers and elderberries when they are in season. Soon we will have more u-pick options. It's a fun and educational activity for the whole family, and you'll get to take home fresh produce that you picked yourself.
Take a guided tour of our farm and learn about sustainable agriculture. You'll see firsthand how we grow our produce and raise our animals, and you'll learn about the importance of small-scale farming. Our tours are great for families, school groups, and anyone who wants to learn more about where their food comes from.
